What is gastrology
Gastrology is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract – the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas and bile ducts. Symptoms such as abdominal pain, heartburn, flatulence, nausea, diarrhea, constipation or blood in the stool can indicate more serious conditions requiring consultation with a specialist.
Early diagnosis and properly selected gastrological treatment can effectively alleviate discomfort and prevent the development of chronic diseases.
Diagnostics
in gastrology
Accurate diagnosis is the basis for effective treatment.
Gastroscopy – evaluation of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum,
Colonoscopy – an examination of the large intestine, helpful in detecting inflammation and cancer,
Abdominal ultrasound – non-invasive evaluation of internal organs,
Laboratory tests – tests for Helicobacter pylori, tumor markers, evaluation of pancreatic and liver enzymes,
Breath tests – diagnosis of lactose intolerance, fructose intolerance and SIBO.
Conservative treatment in gastrology
Therapy is selected individually according to the patient’s needs and the type of condition.
Pharmacotherapy:
drugs that inhibit the secretion of hydrochloric acid – used to treat gastroesophageal reflux and peptic ulcer disease,
Diastolic drugs – helpful for abdominal pain and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS),
Antibiotic therapy – in Helicobacter pylori eradication and gastrointestinal infections,
Medications that are choleretic and support the liver and pancreas.
Diet and lifestyle changes:
Individual dietary recommendations tailored to gastrointestinal disorders,
Nutrition education and relapse prevention,
Support for weight reduction and proper eating habits.
Supportive therapy:
Physiotherapy and osteopathy – for abdominal pains related to muscle tension,
Psychotherapy – to support patients with irritable bowel syndrome and chronic ailments.
Monitoring and prevention
Gastrointestinal diseases often develop asymptomatically, so regular checkups are key to preventing serious complications.
At CARELIFE CLINIC, we offer preventive programs, including:
Early diagnosis of colon, stomach and liver cancers,
Screening for reflux, ulcers and inflammatory bowel disease,
Controls for patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
